The Play's the Thing! In-depth Pre and Post Show Discussions
We prepare students to enjoy and learn from our plays through a discussion of the play and the process of mounting the production. Follow up your IRT visit with a throrough question-and-answer session with an IRT artist. This program encourages critical perception and analysis. Equal emphasis is placed on both IRT's production concept and the text itsef. We strongly encourage you to take advantage of this event to make your visit to the IRT an intesified education experience.

From Page to Stage
During From Page to Stage, every child experiences success. This program consists of multiple sessions where your students meet and interact with professional artists (playwright, director, actor, designer) who guide them and you through adapting a story into a play. All of Bloom's Taxonomy of Education Objectives are utilized through the weeks of reading, writing, rewriting and collaboration!

Create a Dramatic Character Narrative
This is a hands-on approach to studying history and literature. The program includes exercises in writing and performance. Students use their research to think analytically and subjectively, to be creative, and to transform narrative stories into an exciting presentation.

Breaking Down Barriers
This is an examination of sources of conflict and intolerance using drama. The students and their characters will affect change and solve problems. The teaching artsits will lead your students through interactive exercises, which have them identifying themes of gender, race, age, ethnicity and status.

Exploring Shakespeare
Your students explore Shakespeare's imagery, figurative language, literary devices, history, character analysis, plot and themes. We discuss how recognizing, using, and appreciating these elements are essential to the actor, the director and today's audience. This program is extremely interactive! We can focus this session on the play your students are studying or it can be a general introduction.

You're the Critic
Your class will learn how to evaluate a production and write a review. Students are taught to look at the artistic, technical, and practical components that influence what we see on stage. We discuss how the audience can better appreciate and understand the director's concept and the playwright's message. The program includes an active discussion and practice writing.

Bringing Charles Dickens's Characters to Life
This is a study of Charles Dickens's immortal "ghost" story, A Christmas Carol. We share background information on Charles Dickens and the writing of this story. We discuss IRT's beloved production of this tale, and we take your students through oral and written imagery exercises and dramatic storytelling skills.
