Through imaginary play, students will perform the roles of different fairy tale characters. The focus will be on character play, working from a script, dancing, and singing. For the final class, Students will put their work together in a 20-minute performance. Parents will be invited to watch the last 15 minutes of selected classes.

9 Student Minimum
This class will be a technique class covering how “to be in” the moment, not simply how to “play” the moment. Fun will be had while exploring the flexibility of the body and voice, obstacles, choices, creating the where, and so much more!

Young actors will get the opportunity to explore several scenes and different roles in those scenes. Put character development work into play as scene analysis skills are developed. You’ll learn tools and terminology that professionals use in rehearsal.

10-student minimum
These ten classes will be spent doing text and technique work on three different styles of theatre that the IRT is producing in its 2008-09 season: Shakespeare, farce/comédia, Chamber Theatre or 20th Century Realism. This class is best for young actors who have some previous training.

12 student minimum
(10 classes from February 9th to May 4th)
Come to the land of creativity. We’ll play games, tell stories, and use our bodies and voices to become creatures, things of nature, and people from back then, now, and yet to come. Each class will be a new adventure! Friends and family are invited to share in the fun during the last ten minutes of each class. The class will conclude with a final presentation.

Find out what it takes to be an actor. Sample the actor’s tools such as voice and diction, dance, improvisation, script work and the list goes on. Each class will be different, and sometimes the instructor will be too because this is another way that actors learn!

There are a number of types of improvisation and many ways improvisation is used to train actors. This class will delve into several approaches along with establishing the commonalities of “saying yes” sharing the stage, accepting offers and creating the environment.

Come and stretch your acting talents in more directions with works-in-progress created by you and your fellow students! You’ll create character monologues and short scenes, and perhaps write commercials or a variety show skit. Fun in the making and skills for the taking!
