Summer Youth Workshops

Bring theatre to life at the IRT! Children new to theatre can learn the basics in the introductory camps, while more advanced actors can sharpen their skills at our intermediate camps. For those with specialized interests, we offer camps in musical theatre and fight and movement choreography. Small class sizes, highly trained theatre professionals with teaching experience, and an inclusive environment make IRT summer camps a great way to grow as an actor and person. Classes are available for students ages 8-15. 


  • All students must provide proof of Covid vaccination at the time of camp enrollment.
  • All instructors and IRT personnel have received Covid vaccination.
  • Students need to bring lunch and a water bottle each day. Coolers will be available, but not microwaves.
  • This camp is fully inclusive and welcoming to all genders, races, and abilities.
  • Students should wear comfortable clothing with closed toed shoes that allows them to move freely. (no flip flops or sandals)
  • $25 discount per camp for children attending multiple camps

Explore the fundamentals of acting in this introductory acting camp. Step on Stage is designed to help build skills in creating a character, voice control and projection, movement, and stage direction. While students of all experience levels are welcome, this camp is best for students who are just learning about acting. Instructors will focus on making bold choices, and using your voice, body, and imagination to tell a story. All classes are taught by IRT staff and artists.

Dive deeper into your passion as you continue to develop your craft under the instruction of professional artists. Students will get instruction from in acting, dance, movement, voice, and auditioning. Experienced young actors will get a chance to flex their muscles alongside a new group of friends and fellow theatre lovers. All classes are taught by IRT staff and artists.

Learn the basics of musical theatre and explore storytelling through the combination of performance, song, and dance. Students will spend the week learning the fundamentals of voice and movement to rehearse a scene and musical number. In addition, they will learn to build a character, work together as a chorus, and sharpen tools for strong musical theatre auditions. All experience levels are welcome, and classes are taught by IRT staff and artists.

Jump into the always unpredictable world of improv and the highly practiced routines of stage combat! Young performers will spend half their week honing their improv skills and the other combining acting and movement skills to create a compelling choreographed fight scene. Students will work with instructors on fight safety and learn stick and hand-to-hand techniques used in the theatre to create the illusion of combat. In addition, young actors will learn multiple forms of improv, creating their own unique stories and learning how to work together as a team. All experience levels are welcome, and classes are taught by IRT staff and artists.
