Youth Auditions
There are two youth roles available in A Christmas Carol Tiny Tim and Betsy. Both roles play multiple additional characters in the show.
- 8-14 years old; any gender or ethnicity to actually read 8 years old and up
- For the role of Tiny Tim, height must be under 4’11”; taller actors are eligible for other roles
- Must be able to attend rehearsals and performances required
- Must be able to get permission from school to participate
Rehearsals take place Oct. 23 – Nov. 15, six days a week, Tuesday through Sunday. Rehearsal times vary. Most youth rehearsals start after 3:30pm but a few select school days must be missed in the rehearsal process. Young actors must be available for Saturday and Sunday full day rehearsals.
Performances begin Nov. 13 and close Dec. 24 and include many weekday student matinees, which will again require missing some school. Two teams of two young actors each will alternate performances. Only Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day are off around the holidays.
To Audition
1. Be prepared to perform the following monologue from memory: (This speech is a story to share with the audience – acted out by you!)
“At last the dishes were set on, and grace was said. It was succeeded by a breathless pause. Mrs. Cratchit, looking slowly all along the carving knife, prepared to plunge it into the goose; but when she did, and when the long-awaited gush of stuffing issued forth, one murmur of delight rose all ’round the board!”
2. Be prepared to sing “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” or “Happy Birthday” (without piano)

There are two youth roles available for Joe Turner’s Come and Gone by August Wilson.
The Hollys’ next-door neighbor. Even as an adolescent, Reuben is aware of his place in society, notices the spiritual differences of people around him, and decides at a very early age that he needs to settle down with and marry.

(these do not need to be memorized but actors should be very familiar with the material- another person will read the scene with you)
