ABOUT INDIANA REPERTORY THEATRE
The Indiana Repertory Theatre (IRT) was founded in 1972 and is the only theatre in Indiana to belong to the League of Resident Theatres (LORT). Currently, the IRT produces six productions annually in two stages (the OneAmerica Mainstage, and the Upperstage) for diverse audiences. The repertoire includes work varying from world premieres to classics. The IRT serves audiences of multiple generations including students from early elementary through twelfth grade. With a significant endowment, the IRT is financially stable and looks forward to many more years of creating art for the Indianapolis community. Following many decades of diverse programming, the IRT leadership, in the past four years, has focused on further diversifying its staff and board, including ongoing anti-racist training for all.

POSITION PURPOSE
The Production Manager is instrumental in overseeing and facilitating the day-to-day production operations of the theatre while assisting the Artistic Director in achieving mission-driven goals in production and programming. The PM will act as a liaison within the organization to manage the flow of information, allotment of resources, and calendar management for the season. Reporting to the Artistic Director, the PM is a member of IRT’s senior management team and will work closely with the Managing Director, Associate Managing Director, Associate Artistic Director, Director of Marketing & Communications, Director of Development, Director of Finance, and the Director of Inclusion and Community Partnerships. The PM will join the artistic team which consists of the Artistic Director, Associate Artistic Director, Associate Managing Director, Resident Dramaturg, Playwright-in-Residence, Education Coordinator, and Company Manager.
The ideal candidate is a collaborative, detail-oriented manager who leads with positivity, heart, and an equity lens. They have a proven history of excellence in producing stellar productions while balancing the needs of artistic teams, institutional priorities, budgeting, and organizing long-term projects. The PM will play a critical role in building the next chapter of the institution through thought-leadership, connectivity, and ingenuity. A successful production manager at IRT is dedicated to making theatre in the Midwest, bringing world-class artists to Indiana, and celebrating our whole community.
POSITION FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Manage the recruiting, hiring, and contracting of all production team members and production over-hire including (but not limited to):
- Production departmental managers
- Stage managerial staff
- Production assistants
- Run crews
- Seasonal production team members
- Create, evaluate, and manage production schedules, which include but are not limited to:
- Production calendar
- Designer deadlines
- Tech schedules
- Work schedules created by departmental managers
- Maintain and manage all production budgets
- Assist departmental managers in meeting all production deadlines within budget while achieving the highest level of artistic quality possible
- Track and manage the general production budget
- Manage design process:
- Obtain designs from designers with contracted deadlines
- Disseminate designs to directors, artistic director, and production team via Dropbox
- Assist departmental managers in getting designs finalized on time and within budget while maintaining artistic quality
- Schedule, run, and organize all:
- Production Meetings
- Live & Learns
- Design Concept Meetings
- Designer-Departmental Meetings as needed
- Assist in Season Planning
- Read and budget needs for possible shows
- With the Managing and Artistic Directors, create a season calendar
- With the Managing and Artistic Directors, create a season budget for approval by the Board
- Attend all tech rehearsals and previews and run post–tech production meetings following each
- Facilitate all communication between creative team members and departmental managers
- Coordinate crossover projects between departments
- Assist production departmental managers with unexpected problem–solving
- Act as liaison between departmental managers and administrative staff to facilitate ancillary work requests
- Manage Production elements related to space rental events
- Work with the managing director to facilitate maintenance of stage equipment and purchase new equipment as needed
- Head building–wide safety and safety procedures
- Facilitates tech needs for marketing and development events
- Member of senior staff
- Act as an ambassador to promote the IRT in the community locally and nationally
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
A strong candidate will have experience in:
- Proven experience in handling production and design processes on large–scale productions
- Working knowledge of USA, SDC, AEA and LORT collective bargaining agreements
- Leading teams of more than ten individuals
- Working in producing organizations or similar entertainment ventures, preferably a nonprofit regional theatre
- Managing budgetary expenditures
- Prioritizing and scheduling multi-step processes through completion
- Liaising between departments
- Managing varied staff (freelancers, full–time, part–time, over–hire)
- Knowledge of professionals working in the theatre field

- IRT is looking to rebuild our overhire lists as we recover from the pandemic. Positions include Scenic Carpentry, Upholstery, Scenic Artistry, Cabinetmaking, Rigging, Costume Construction, Pattern Making, Electrics, Audio Engineering, Projections, Stage Management, Production Assistants, etc.

- General knowledge in your given field or in some instances, simply the desire to learn more about a department.
