High School Workshops
Monologues are an essential part of the actor’s toolkit. In this workshop, young actors will be guided by professionals in the art of choosing, analyzing, and delivering a strong monologue. (Best paired with “Audition Techniques” for a full day of concentrated monologue work!)

In order to get the dream role, actors must deliver a strong, unique audition! This workshop will tackle monologues, cold-reads, and making the audition fun from start to finish. Whether shooting for the starring role in a community theatre production or setting sights on college theatre programs, auditions are a part of the process. With this half-day workshop, young actors will dive headfirst into the art of the audition. (Pairs well with “Monologue Masterclass”)

This creative workshop takes your cosplay of the next Con to the next level! From makeup techniques, to costume tricks, to committing to the character, this fundamental half-day workshop will inspire the creative spark that will make you stand out among fellow cosplayers! ($25 supply fee will be added, and students will take home costume elements)

Obsessed with all things drag? Have you always wanted to try, but don’t know where to begin? Or perhaps you’re looking to expand your skills? This short masterclass taught by a professional drag artist will be chock full of tips and tricks, creative looks, and inspiration for putting your best face forward. You’ll be runway-ready in no time. ($25 supply fee will be added, and students will keep supplies)

This is a full-day workshop that will have artists acting, singing, and dancing their way to a strong package to take into audition rooms. Performers will learn how to find the ideal 16-bar cut of a song, practice learning a dance combination quickly, and explore making bold acting choices. Most of all, students will learn the importance of bringing their unique personality to the audition—and enjoying the audition process on the whole!
When: July 10, 9 AM-4:30 PM (with a lunch break)

Shakespeare can feel daunting to actors, but fear not! This workshop will be a full-day exploration of putting together the Shakespeare puzzle. Using both monologues and partnered scene work, actors will work with text analysis, the importance of imagery, and that dreaded iambic pentameter – all things that will unlock the Shakespeare block!
When: July 11, 9 AM-4:30 PM (with a lunch break)

Calling all high school playwrights! In this full-day workshop, a professional playwright will encourage young writers to put their story ideas into play form. Students will be coached on world-, character-, and scene-building techniques for their own plays, and they will learn of the benefits of group feedback for improving their work. This is a great way to gear up for the IRT’s annual Young Playwrights in Process playwriting contest in the fall!
