Following the 2 PM performance of English
For many immigrants, learning English is a gateway to new possibilities and a reckoning with identity. Join us for a conversation about the complicated relationships people have with language: the pride, the shame, the humor, and the hope. Hear from those who facilitate English Language Learning and language-justice advocates about how we unpack what it means to speak and be heard on one’s own terms. The conversation will feature members of our local partner organizations Exodus Refugee, Indy Reads, and Immigrant Welcome Center.
6 PM, before the 7:30 PM performance of English
Join the IRT, English director Azar Kazemi and Butler University’s Dr. Sholeh Shahrokhi (Anthropology) in the Janet Allen Lobby for an evening gathering to honor the Iranian cultural heritage of Nowruz, the Persian New Year. This gathering is meant to be a space of respite, reflection and community in conjunction with the beginning of spring. Light refreshments will be served.
