Reviews
Fences "examines painful subjects, the ending is satisfying, and the growth of the characters leaves the audience uplifted in the face of these characters' grueling challenges."
Strongly recommend "Fences." One of the strongest productions I've seen in about 20 years of IRT watching.
In many ways, “Fences” is a revision to the American dream.
If you have a chance, go see the play "Fences" at #irtlive. Saw it on Broadway a long time ago and this is just as good. Beautifully done.
Steeped in recorded blues and black gospel music when the stage action pauses, Indiana Repertory Theatre's "Fences" has parallels to music in its fondness for refrains as well as free fantasias. Characters spin stories of ambition and survival into the ether, but also find themselves repeatedly grounded, serving detention in the school of hard knocks.
I have been a season subscriber for many years. This is by far one of the best productions I have attended. Bravo!
Thank you to ALL of the talented actors and actresses who brought August Wilson's play to life. My husband and I have never been season ticket holders before but are seriously considering the investment now. God bless you for your gifts and for sharing them with the world.
Fences was the best drama performance we have ever seen at IRT. The cast, the scenery, the costumes were all first rate.
Fences was one of the best plays I have seen. The acting was outstanding, especially David Alan Anderson.
About the Play
Powerful drama from August Wilson’s epic cycle. A former Negro League baseball player, thwarted in his dreams of a Major League career, struggles to provide for his family and break free from the boundaries imposed upon him. Set in 1957, at the intersection of old prejudices and changing opportunities, Fences is a powerful drama filled with passionate love and thundering rage, generous laughter and searing pain
