Nya’s son, Omari, is tormented with rage and in trouble at school. A fractured family navigates a broken system as a mother fights for her son’s future in a world divided by race, class and money. Compassion and eloquence galvanize this gritty new work by one of America’s most sought-after playwrights.

APPROXIMATE RUN TIME: 1 hour and 30 minutes, with no intermission

Pipeline is a modern drama that contains strong language throughout and some adult situations.

Director Raelle Myrick-Hodges joins the Indiana Repertory Theatre for an exclusive, one-day-only discussion facilitated by Associate Artistic Director Benjamin Hanna. Myrick-Hodges, the creator and co-founder of Azuka Theatre, has directed productions around the world and currently is a guest professor of graduate studies in Theatre Performance at Brown University. This post-show discussion begins immediately following the performance and lasts for approximately 30 minutes. Admittance to the discussion is included with ticket purchase.

Tamara Winfrey-Harris, Vice President of Marketing & Communications at the Central Indiana Community Foundation will discuss the impact of the school-to-prison pipeline on black girls with experts Carolyn Strong and Dr. Tyffani Monford Dent. Strong is dean of students at a Chicago-area high school serving more than 1,500 students and author to several books, including Black Girl Blues: Small Group Sessions, Discussions and Activities to Combat Intra-Racial Bullying. Dr. Tyffani Monford Dent is a psychologist, motivational speaker and one of the most well-respected psychologists in the Ohio child welfare and court system. Dr. Dent is the author of several books, including Becoming Who I Want to Be: A Good Lives Workbook for Young Women.

Pamela Ross, Vice President of Opportunity, Equity and Inclusion at the Central Indiana Community Foundation will facilitate a discussion with Jacob Allen, Cofounder and CEO of pilotED Schools and Dr. David Hampton, Pastor of Light of the World Christian Church and Deputy Mayor of Neighborhood Engagement for the City of Indianapolis. They will focus on the effects and disparaging outcomes of African American males driven into the school-to-prison pipeline.
